'If Adani sends money, I'll keep quiet' says Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury
Bengal's Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Kumar made a significant visit to Sandeshkhali, engaging with locals, police personnel, and the all-women special investigation team amidst mounting allegations of human rights violations. This development comes as the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) take cognisance of the situation, calling for reports on the crisis in Sandeshkhali. Meanwhile, a second woman has accused Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shibaprasad Hazra (Shibu) and his aides of gang rape, leading to the lodging of a fresh FIR against them.
In response to the latest complaint, authorities have initiated legal action against Hazra, Amir Ali Gazi, and Bhanu Mondal, adding charges of wrongful confinement and criminal intimidation alongside gang rape allegations. The complainant recorded her statement before a judicial magistrate of the Basirhat court, prompting the court to permit the addition of fresh charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). DGP Rajeev Kumar's visit coincided with these developments, as he spent time in Sandeshkhali, interacting with various stakeholders to assess the situation on the ground.
